Get steeped in suspense, romance, and high Victorian intrigue as Mary goes undercover at Buckingham Palace - and learns a startling secret at the Tower of London.
Queen Victoria has a little problem: there's a petty thief at work in Buckingham Palace. Charged with discretion, the Agency puts quickwitted Mary Quinn on the case, where she must pose as a domestic while fending off the attentions of a feckless Prince of Wales. But when the prince witnesses the murder of one of his friends in an opium den, the potential for scandal looms large. And Mary faces an even more unsettling possibility: the accused killer, a Chinese sailor imprisoned in the Tower of London, shares a name with her long-lost father. Meanwhile, engineer James Easton, Mary's onetime paramour, is at work shoring up the sewers beneath the palace, where an unexpected tunnel seems to be very much in use. Can Mary and James trust each other (and put their simmering feelings aside) long enough to solve the mystery and protect the Royal Family? Hoist on your waders for Mary's most personal case yet, where the stakes couldn't be higher - and she has everything to lose.
The Agency Series Just Keeps Getting Better and Better!!
Y.S Lee once again surprised me with a brilliant and jaw-dropping Mary Quinn Mystery! With unexpected twist and turns, The Traitor in the Tunnel is an excellent and well thought-out addition to the Agency series. Again, Y.S.Lee give us high quality and the best enjoyment in the third installment of this highly addictive Victorian mystery series!
I adore Y.S.Lee's writing and her uncanny ability to take readers back in time from the very first page. Lee is certainly one of my favorite YA writer! Everything she does, she does it perfectly! Countless of times, I have said how much I recommended The Agency series, this time is not exception! The Agency series are not only well-written, but also the story is absolute captivating in every single way. The mystery will always keep you reading at the edge of your seat, biting your nails, and sometimes, it will makes you sigh and swoon as well. The Traitor in the Tunnel is filled with action and emotions! From beginning to end, I felt entirely consumed by the story. Mary Quinn's new mystery at Buckingham Palace is certainly a must-read! Besides solving a mystery and having delicious encounters with James Easton, Mary also meets Queen Elizabeth, Prince Leopold, Prince Arthur, and many other characters! In addition, I love how Mary Quinn comes to terms and accept her past, her history, her heritage, in this third wonderful installment. I love and admire Mary Quinn's decision through out the book, and specially at the end of it (in what concerns the jaw-dropping James Easton) Plus, the ending of this book feels like a big open door to so much more come! I can't wait to see will happen next! And Oh. My. God! The romance is breathtaking! Mary and James are the most delightful couple ever! From their discussions to their passionate kisses, this couple will simply accelerate your heart every time both of these characters pop-up in the same page. *sigh*
The Traitor in the Tunnel also develops an immense character growing. Do you remember the James Easton from A Spy in the House? How can such arrogant business man can ever be forgotten! Well, his trip to India, his misfortune with Malaria and the lovely Mary Quinn, have absolutely changed this man in a 100%, and none of the most flattering words are able to properly describe him anymore. He is just TOO perfect. Mary's growing is also a brilliant development in this installment. Mary overcomes so many dangers and personal struggles during her time working at The Agency, that all of the previous events have helped her to become the one person we see at the end of The Traitor in the Tunnel. However, and specially in this book, is James' support is what probably helps Mary Quinn the most. Having said that, there are various important themes that enhance the content of this book, such as gender role, feminism, family, prejudice and acceptance.
The Traitor in the Tunnel is certainly a heart-racing, breath-taking, dynamic and brilliant read! This book has everything a YA lover is looking for, yet it can be highly enjoyed by adult as well. This book has action, romance, suspense, danger, and some very emotional scenes that broke my heart into tiny little pieces. Oh! Y.S. Lee, you put everything into this book!
The Traitor in the Tunnel is another stunning novel that will swallow you into Victorian London! Just by reading the first page, readers will be willing to leave behind the present and the future to embrace every moment this excellent Mary Quinn mystery has to offer!
